Why Foster?
The role of fosters in animal rescue is incredibly valuable. For every dog you foster, you actually save two lives. You save the life of your foster dog and the life of the dog who takes your foster dog’s place in the shelter. Since we do not have a shelter space, we are completely dependent on our fosters. By opening your home to a foster, you have a direct impact in allowing us to rescue more dogs and get them to their furever homes.
Fostering is a very fulfilling experience. When foster dogs are in your care, they absolutely blossom. Some of our dogs have never known what it is like to have a loving family. Others have been abused or neglected. It is amazing to watch them thrive with the love of their foster families. Such a transformation would not be possible in a shelter environment.
What Does Fostering Entail?
Fostering essentially entails opening up your home to a homeless dog and caring for the dog as you would your own pet. This includes providing food, water, toys, exercise, socialization, and any other care the foster dog may need. Nerdy Paws Animal Rescue provides for any medical care the dog may need. We also encourage our fosters to participate in adoption events to increase exposure of our adoptable dogs to help them find their furever families. We ask that fosters also provide pictures, behavioral information, and any other information that will help the foster dog get adopted.
Foster dogs sometimes may be adopted in days, and, other times, in weeks. We require that fosters commit to having the foster dogs for at least two weeks. We encourage our fosters to keep the foster dog until he or she finds her furever home!
